Plantar Fasciitis Treatments

Quick and Effective Heel Pain Relief

'I couldn't get out of bed'

Common Plantar Fasciitis treatments include rest, anti-inflammatory medications, stretching exercises, physical therapy, taping, supportive shoes, heel seats, orthotics inserts, night splints, shockwave therapy and surgery(ouch). Most individuals (90%+) respond to conservative therapies and avoid surgery.

Rest until the pain subsides. Since it can be very difficult to rest during the day, most people work and have to be on their feet,  shoes with good arch support, costly orthotics or these Doctor recommended Heel Seats are good alternatives.

Ibuprofen and other anti-inflammatory agents have been successful for many as temporary Plantar Fasciitis treatment.

Apply ice to help reduce pain and inflammation. This cold therapy should be applied directly on the injury area only and regularly until symptoms have resolved.

Taping - the success of taping as a Plantar Fasciitis treatment varies depending on the severity of your Heel Pain. Occasionally taping will  yield some short term success in reducing heel pain. Taping by yourself can be another pain. Heel Cups, Seats or Pads are excellent compliments or much easier replacements for taping.

Walking on the painful foot, without some type of padding or arch support, will continue to aggravate the injury and increase the inflammation. Because more Doctors recommend 'HTP'  heel pads, we offer you a direct link to their best deals on inserts and other foot care products on the right side display.

Physical Therapy - provided me some short term relief. My visit to the therapist included some electrical shock therapy and a few massage type treatments. When I left I had a list of stretches to perform and not much hope for a fast solution. She was a very nice person, however I was looking for some direction on how to get back to normal activities and deal with the pain quickly.

Orthotics, while they can be expensive have been found to be effective in restoring normal foot behavior, especially when overpronation is a cause. A good alternative might be  'HTP' heel seats , they are very reasonably priced and offer Doctor Recommended products.

Apply massage techniques to reduce the tension in the plantar fascia and aid stretching of the tissue.

Stretching  is an important part of Plantar Fascia treatment, which when coupled with reducing pain and inflammation, is beneficial for long term recovery.

If the conservative Plantar Fasciitis treatments listed here do not resolve your heel pain, then a form of surgery, known as Plantar Fascia Release may help. When releasing the plantar fascia is considered, (removing parts of the fascia) there are often side affects including arch problems etc. that go along with the surgery. You should be very careful when considering this form of treatment as it could impact your foots load carrying capabilities. More than one opinion is considered prudent before surgery is scheduled.
